5 Ways to Get Fired - CollegeRecruiter.com

However, unlike being laid-off, being fired can be prevented to a great extent. ?While nothing is 100% in this world, taking certain preventative measures while at work will significantly lessen the risk of being let go from your job.

What are these preventative measures? ?While each industry and individual company has its own triggers, here are 5 actions that get many workers canned:

1. Playing on social media too much ? While at work, stay away from Facebook and Twitter even if you are on lunch break. ?Make it a rule that you don?t log-in to any social media sites on the company?s computers.

Failure to do so and you?re going to stick out like a sore thumb to management on a daily basis. ?Then, one day management is in a bad mood and?you get fired. ?End of story.

2. Hanging out with the wrong crowd ? Companies know that there are some employees at each organization who just don?t buy into the company?s mottos and corporate objectives.

To a co-worker, they are easily spottable due to excessive negative behavior and prolonged employment at the firm with almost no bonuses, accolades or promotions to show for their time at the organization.

If people need to get fired in a company, they are most likely going to be cherry-picked from groups that fit the above criteria.

3. Excessive arguing with your boss ? Arguing with your boss really gets you nowhere. ?It?s like whacking a rattle snake repeatedly hoping that it will never bite you. ?All it takes is one time for you to argue with your boss in a manner that embarrasses him or her in front of other subordinates and you?re?probably going to be fired.

4. Applying to other jobs at work ? You might as well show your poker hand before the chips are thrown out. ?To be searching for jobs while at work is highly risky as, in the eyes of an employer, you are getting paid by them to do research on how to leave their organization.

Not only will this get you fired, remember that it is unethical to do so. ?Wait until you get home.

5. Excessive talking on the phone ? Unless it is an emergency, make it a habit to not speak on the phone to friends or even family. ?If you must, go outside and use your cell phone.

A lot of job applicants think that just because a manager acts like they don?t care, he or she doesn?t. ?They are often in for a rude awakening.

In the End

While there are thousands of reasons employees get fired each year, not many of these reasons are all that different.
