It?s the holidays and we?re all busy, running around making things merry and bright. But let?s not let our health go to the wayside by trying to create the perfect holiday celebration for our families.
Here are a few things you can do to make sure that you stay happy and healthy this holiday season:
1. Keep your appointments. Whether you?re a physical therapy patient or if your child is a speech therapy patient. The holidays does not give you an excuse to slack on your attendance. Therapists prescribe a certain number of visits per week to ensure your progress and to get the best results as fast as they can. Skipping those appointments or missing an entire week is only hurting yourself.
2. Be active. Whether you go for a walk after a meal, or simply stand up to do a few stretches after sitting down for a long meal, keeping active is a great way to keep spirits up during the holidays. Stretching helps your range of motion, increases your blood circulation, and enhances muscle coordination among many other things. Being active and taking time to stretch is among one of the best things you can do for yourself during the holiday season.
3. Eat Healthy. This one is a no-brainer but with all the holiday treats, sometimes we need to be reminded. Instead of bringing cookies to all your parties, try bringing an veggie platter or a fruit salad.
4. Be well rested. Because the holidays can be so stressful, making sure to get 8-10 hours of shut eye each night is of utmost importance. Sleeping gives your mind and body time to rest and repair itself. Slacking on the shut eye will only make your stresses and anxieties that much harder to deal with.
5. Enjoy yourself! Don?t sweat the small stuff doesn?t just apply to the holidays but to every day life as well. Enjoy your time through the holiday season with loved ones and celebrate the many accomplishments of the year.
