TWST: Which two, three chemicals stocks would you recommend as best bets for investors today, and what do you like about each of those?

Mr. Rizzo: Sure. My favorite stock right now is a company called American Vanguard. The stock is cheap now; it obviously took a hit last week. I think the stock was down roughly 30%, 30-odd percent. Because they preannounced a bad quarter, in my opinion, that was a lot of what - the problems they have there are weather-related and are just a timing issue. They will probably recoup most of that in the third quarter, and I think the stock is currently undervalued. I think it will benefit from just an uptick in demand for corn.

Corn prices are low because of an increased acreage right now, but that increased acreage is going to pull them in for their herbicides and pesticides. For American Vanguard in particular, they don't have a lot of competition for one of their main products that corn is grown, insecticide, and demand is high because of rootworm problem and just because of traditional corn, and corn planting has led to some other methods of killing pests to be less effective. So I think they are in a unique position.

Another company I like a lot is Omnova Solutions (OMN). This is more of a valuation; it's probably the cheapest name in my sector, trading at less than 10 times estimate - didn't really enjoy the run-up that a lot of other chemical companies did. They have heavy exposure, or just a decent exposure, to housing, to their laminate and their cabinet end markets.

They make a chemical that uses corporate backing and they make laminates for cabinets, and I think that's going to help fuel revenues, and as I said, one of the things that's killed them in the past is raw material costs, particularly butadiene. Those costs have been benign for about six months now; don't see that really going up, so I think they could really do well when...

New Albany council OKs funds for church

NEW ALBANY ?

Historic Town Clock Church is set to receive a new steeple.?

On Thursday, the New Albany City Council voted 8-0 in favor of releasing the previously appropriated $75,000 in funds for the ongoing church restoration project.?

In order for the funds to be released, the council stipulated in January that Friends of the Town Clock Church had to match the city?s contribution.?

The organization has met that challenge, and then some. More than $98,000 in private funds have been raised, and on Tuesday the four restored clock faces of the church were replaced.?

The city?s funds will be earmarked to replicate and replace the circa-1852 church steeple, which was viewed as an important symbol when the structure served as a link in the Underground Railroad during the Civil War.?

?Trust me, we will be good stewards of your money,? said Alice Miles, president of the Friends of the Town Clock Church.?

The building is now home to Second Baptist Church, but Miles said the project isn?t just about helping a religious institution.?

?Once these buildings are gone, that?s part of our history of our community? that?s lost, she said.?

Councilwoman Diane McCartin-Benedetti was absent from Thursday?s meeting. When the money was appropriated in February, Councilmen Greg Phipps and Scott Blair voted against the measure.?

Blair said at the time he had reservations about whether matching funds could be raised to complete the initial phases of the project.?

Phipps cited his belief in separation of church and state matters as his reason for voting against the appropriation.?

But ?once an appropriation has been made, it needs to be released,? Phipps said Thursday before voting in favor of the resolution.?

The entire project, including exterior improvements to the building, has been estimated to cost about $400,000, and Friends of the Town Clock Church is still seeking donations for the effort.?

COFFEY QUESTIONS FIRE MUSEUM MEETING

Councilwoman Shirley Baird informed the council Thursday she recently met with David Duggins, director of economic development and redevelopment for the city, about the city?s potential financial involvement in upgrading the downtown Farmers Market and purchasing a building for the Vintage Fire Museum and Education Center.?

The fire museum is located in the former Coyle Auto building off Spring Street, but the property is being sold and museum officials are attempting to find a new location, preferably in New Albany.?

Baird said she has discussed the project with Curt Peters, president of the museum?s board of directors, and added she may bring a funding resolution up for a vote to aid the organization.?

But Councilman Dan Coffey questioned why museum officials would discuss funding from the council when they have also requested aid from the New Albany Redevelopment Commission.?

Peters appeared before the commission in June, and Coffey said Thursday the organization requested $140,000 in funding from the body.?

That amount wasn?t discussed publicly during the commission meeting, though Coffey said at the time the city should consider pitching in $100,000 to keep the museum in New Albany.?

Coffey said Thursday that he wouldn?t support providing funding from the commission and the council for the fire museum.?

Such a request would basically be asking two municipal organizations to give public funds to one project, he continued.?

?I?m not comfortable with that,? Coffey said.?

But Duggins countered that his meeting with Baird was ?just a brainstorming session.??

He added that fire museum officials haven?t specified a funding-request amount from the council.?

Baird said her discussions with Peters have been so she could understand more about the project and what will be needed financially to keep the museum in New Albany.?

She encouraged other council members to meet with Duggins and seek additional information about the museum.?

Peters wasn?t present during the meeting, and no one spoke on behalf of the fire museum.?

Blair said whatever path is taken, the city needs specific financial projections and plans from the museum to ensure it?s a feasible effort.?

?Financially, it?s an expensive project,? he said.?

Report: Dell Precision M3800 workstation to launch with 3,200 x 1,800 display option (updated)

According to a source speaking to Dutch site Tweakers.net, which has been spot on with a previous Dell leak, a new laptop known as the M3800 is set to join Dell's Precision range of workstations. An Intel Core i7-4702MQ (Haswell) processor will reportedly power the M3800, with a 2GB NVIDIA Quadro K1100M GPU taking care of graphics. It's expected to come with up to 16GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive or 512GB SSD and two options for the 15.6-inch screen: a 3,200 x 1,800 resolution or a 1080p panel as the base option. The workstation is said to measure 18mm (around 0.7 inches) at its thickest point, and tip the scales at 2kg (4.4 pounds). Integrated docking found on other Precision models is apparently not in the M3800's feature set; it's also missing an Ethernet port, so hard-lines will need to be connected via a USB intermediate. Tweakers.net lists an expected price range of $1,699 to $1,999, but now comes the part where we wait for the M3800 to go official and see how correct all this leaked info is.

Update: Dell has now provided us with a statement that confirms that the M3800 is indeed coming later this year, although it's not yet confirming all of the specs. More information is promised in the coming weeks.

Dell is introducing the thinnest and lightest workstation ever later this year. The Dell Precision M3800 is the first mobile workstation that is less than ¾ of an inch, at 18mm, weighs only 4.5lbs and offers certified performance and dependability for creative professionals. We are not releasing or confirming any additional details today but stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

Looks like sales for July will be slightly ahead of last year. It will be interesting to see what happens with condo prices, since they came to quite a peak this year. Single family home prices are following their typical pattern, but the gap appears to be narrowing between last year's average and this year's average.?

New Nexus 7 leak points to Android 4.3, dual cameras and wireless charging (update: on sale July 31st)

A few days back, a lovely tipster sent us in some shots that strongly suggest a shiny new Nexus 7 will be hitting shelves next week for $269. Granted, that's for the 32GB model, but it still represents a $20 premium over the current version. What we haven't known until now, though, has been what exactly that extra $20 will get you. A new leak, that photo above of a product info tag, suggests that there are actually quite a few extras baked in this time around. According to the pic, there's a quad-core 1.5GHz CPU with the still-unannounced Android 4.3 as the OS. The 7-inch screen size remains, though it's unclear if there's a resolution bump to accompany it. Also on board are a pair of cameras: 1.2MP up front and 5MP around back. The two more unexpected tidbits are the addition of Slim Port support for playing 1080p video on your TV, as well as wireless charging, because the less cables you need, the happier you're bound to be. We're sure all will be revealed next week at Google's big event.

Update: Yet another tipster has reached out to us to share that the next iteration of the Nexus 7 will officially go on sale in Staples on July 31st. As you can see in the memo after the break the tablets are expected to arrive in stores as early as the 24th, but they'll be kept under lock and key until the last day of the month. This doesn't preclude Google from selling the devices through the Play store earlier, though, but that would mean taking the plunge without trying it out first.
